Name of Your School / Library / Organization:
I am the Library Media Specialist at the Littleton Middle School in Littleton, Ma., and I am in the process of becoming certified in LIS. I went back to school with two teen-agers at home, and recieved my teaching degree last year. While I was looking for a teaching job, this part-time position became available, and I haven't looked back since. I love teaching the students research skills while incorporating lessons and projects that are connected to our academic and unified arts curriculum. It is so exciting to have the flexibility to explore numerous ways that I can connect research to their curriculum.

I am presently exploring middle school curriculums who offer organizational and study skills in their middle school library classes. I want to present some examples to the district of successful programs that are a part of middle school library (or other) curriculums.

I would love to incorporate the teaching of these skills to sixth graders in addition to developing their research skills through the use of the web and library sources.

My website will be changing its format to blend with the style of the Littleton Public Schools website.

I look forward to this terrific forum for this library media specialist rookie!

Greetings Barbara,

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight. If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Mike McQueen
