Name of Your School / Library / Organization:
I am an 8th grade Contemporary Literacy teacher and UIL Debate Coach at Bradley Middle School. I was part of the NEISD pilote that incorporated Media Literacy into the Reading classes at Bradley. This resulted in me teaching Contemporary Literacy and Advanced Contemporary Literacy, a cutting edge reading course required for all 8th grade students in the North East School District.. This is my 8th year of teaching and my 6th year teaching this innovative media based course that houses all the Reading TEKS. Research and lesson plan writing has been a major focus in the incorporation of the advancement of media over the decades into a major portion of the lessons taught. Another aspect of this course is the incorporation of Lincoln Douglas Debate and Student Congress at the advanced level and technology lessons throughout the year at both regular and advanced levels. Truly a cutting edge reading course that the students LOVE and is a true joy to teach!. I am presently enrolled at SHSU in the Masters of Library Science online program and I am loving it. I am so looking forward to being a part of the library network here in San Antonio. It is a rewarding career that gives back so much to the surrounding community and provides students of all ages a furtherance of their studies as well as a support to complete those goals. How rewarding is that/1? I am NEISD bred graduating from Roosevelt HS in 1980 and daughter to Dorothy Bankhead who taught English for 30+ years.finishing her career at Garner Middle School in 2004/2005. I am the proud mother of two, Blake 16 and Marissa 14.

Greetings Marianne,
I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight. If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!
Sincerely,
Mike McQueen

I am glad you are enjoying your studies. San Antonio is a great town. We are so excited to be offering instruction there! Cheers, mabell
PS In the distant past I was a debater at San Marcos High. My partner and I went to the state meet! Got beat in the first round but it was still a thrill.
