Name of Your School / Library / Organization:

I was born in Mpls., and moved to CA after college in '75, where I met my husband. He was in the house, when I moved in. My aunt taught library school at Kent State, and becoming a librarian was the furthest thing in my mind. After all, what kind of job is that, just stamping cards and books? lol , 32 years later, look at me now! I am a swimmer. I swim for Walnut Creek Masters. My freestyle relay came in first at Nationals in 05. We were ranked #1 in the world(FINA) My daughter and I swim together. We received the first mother/daughter rookie of the year in '05. We still train every morning with our team and coaches at 5:30 am. Swimming, books, cats and chocolate; who could ask for anything more?

  • Greetings Karen,

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight.

If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!

    Sincerely,

    Mike McQueen
