Online writing center

I am wanting to start an online writing center at my school that will complement our physical student-staffed center. Have any of you ever done this? I have an idea that students will send their compositions to a drop box and ask for specific help. Certified students will, as they do in person, offer suggestions based on the solicited request for advice. The assistants will go through the same rigorous selection process as they do to participate in the face-to-face center. In addition to peer…See More

General comments about the book

I finished the book last evening sitting in front of the fireplace with one of my dogs (it is really cold in Austin right now!). She didn't mind me using her new princess bed for my book rest.Since my university studies resume soon, I won't have time to discuss the book chapter by chapter so I am making some general comments here. With the exception of a lack of quality collaboration with the school librarian (there was one good example), the book effectively operationalizes the kind of quality…See More

Greetings Barbara,

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight.

If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Mike McQueen
