"Hi Beth. I am not sure we can model lifelong learning and inquiry skills without sometimes wading into controversial waters. I think we need to be aware of the way our own beliefs relate to those of our communities as we lead students into deeper…"
"Nancy, I totally agree with you on the importance of the wording we use with students and the type of questions we ask. I, also, believe that our students can do much deeper thinking, than is often required. The authors of our book do seem to have a…"
"Here are some of my thoughts and questions regarding Chapter 2. First, I think the Comprehension Continuum chart is a wonderful resource to share with teachers as well as the outline of "How Proficient Readers Think as they Read, Listen, or…"
"Students do need to take responsibility for their own education. They key is how much and in what ways. A high school student should have more responsibility for the scope and content of his education than a first grader. There should be a gradual…"
"I am looking forward to expanding our discussion into different formats. Elluminate, GoogleWave, and VoiceThread seem to be good options I, also, have GoogleWave invites if anyone in the group needs one."
"This is an interesting question. Another factor in the lack of collaboration between the teachers and librarians in this book and others may be lack of time or access. Remember, some of us, especially on the elementary level, are still rigidly…"

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight. If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!
