  • Greetings Kathy,

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight.

If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!

    Sincerely,

    Mike McQueen

  • Kathy,

I attended ASD, and loved the overseas experience. Currently, I am pursuing my masters in Library Science from the University of North Texas (ALA-accredited) and have been thinking about working as a librarian abroad.

I hope it isn't too forward, but I saw on ASD's website that you have worked as a librarian in a few different overseas locations, and was hoping you might be able to answer a question or two for me. Have you found that most overseas schools look for certain specialties within the degree? Is a teaching cert generally required? The program here offers a teacher's cert, but my advisor says it won't be necessary for my to complete it for a library position abroad.

    Best Regards,
    Drew Smith
  • Kathy,

Perhaps you are already enjoying the nice summer. I just want to ask you a random question since we work in the same city and wheather/dust are a tricky factor. Are you guys storing the books away in boxes or leaving them on the shelves? sorry, very silly question but I never had to do it before :-)
  • Hi Kathy! So glad you joined. I gave Dianna a big hug for you. I know she's excited to move on, but I think she's sad at the same time. She's been an amazing presence here.

Have a great summer in Minnesota!

    Ann
