Anyone work in a primary school and jumped on ditching dewey? I have done a little work in my non-fiction sections with dogs, cats, horses, farm animals etc... anyone have labels that work well with primary aged children or props they may be using that they would like to share? I recently read somewhere to use a piggy bank beside the books on money... that is the sort of ideas I am looking for...

We still use Dewey but we use subject headings as well to help kids along. We try to keep the Dewey numbers as short as possible, usually only one number after the decimal point. I still want them to be able to recognise that things are organised this way so that when they move up to HS they aren't totally confused. All our fiction however is organised alphabetically by author surname.
