Many of our librarians have been discussing maker spaces--specifically, what are they, how do initiate them, how do we initiate them with little or no money.
Anyone out there with ideas or comments please reply!

Some teachers in my building have put up requests on Donors Choose. They are also collecting donated recycled materials. It's amazing how many old phones, printers, etc. parents and staff have if you ask, along with toilet paper tubes, cereal boxes, milk jugs, etc. The dollar store can also be your friend. Maybe the PTO would sponsor $50 worth of materials to get you started. Once parents and administration see the value, you may have access to more financial support.
I've been sneaking maker type stuff into my grocery run all summer. Probably not what you want to hear though. ;) I do plan to ask parents for donations for things like Legos, duct tape, beads, rubber bands, etc.
