Anyone Using Edmodo?

I anyone using Edmodo? It is a free, secure, social networking site for educators - very easy to use, and keeps our students safe! You can get a district accounts, too... http://www.edmodo.com/

I am hosting my Mock Caldecott and Geisel award discussions on Edmodo this year... Love the social networking format - it is very easy to use, and my teachers are already accustomed to it through their personal use of other networking sites. I have started a Library Media page if you care to join in - the code to join is cw5d4w!

  • I recently attended a conference in which the Technology Director for a Chicago Public School mentioned Schoology. The Tech Director stated that while she had been using Edmodo, she preferred Schoology and thought it had some better features.

    • I also have been using Schoology this year. We compared it to Edmodo, Blackboard, and Moodle. We chose Schoology because of its easy to use interface and easy to use features such as the discussion forums, online quizzes, and calendars. Our teachers have found Schoology easy to use, and students have appreciated the both the structure and flexibility in the platform. I highly recommend that you take a look at it.

  • I use it for my online young adult class I teach at Arcadia University and I also follow the Common Core conversation and have introduced it to my social studies teacher friend who uses it for Lit Circles.  I will be joining yours!

  • Hi Rachel, I joined your Edmodo site.  I am a high school librarian, grades 10-12.  I also teach an online course for Arcadia University and that is where I use Edmodo.  I will gladly participate when I can add to the conversation.  Thanks

  • Denver Public Schools is using Edmodo for professional learning communities and some blended learning.  We currently have blended learning, iPad users, Portfolio based assessment, Common Core, and Digital Citizenship groups.

  • Just make sure you are doing parent notifications to comply with COPPA. See http://www.nassp.org/Content/158/PLSept11_techtips..pdf for information on use of Edmodo requiring parent signature and notifications for students under 18.
