My new library home page

I've started using Google Apps with my students, and switched my old Dreamweaver web page for an iGoogle personalized start page. I'm still trying it out, but I love that I can give students accounts so that they can customize their pages and access email and Google Docs. Of course, many students fill their pages with games, but I've also seen some adding dictionaries, calculators, notebooks, and other academic tools. I will probably be posting about how this works in the future, as I'm excited about Google Apps and how I can use it in a school library. Plus, it's free!

Cool idea, using an iGoogle page as your library's homepage. I didn't realized that it could be made public. I am definitely going to play with this idea and see if I can make it work for my library.

Hi Kim,

Yes, you can make it public, but only if you use Google Apps (not the regular iGoogle page). Go to this link to set it up: http://www.google.com/a/help/intl/en/index.html

It's free, and if you work in education you can get the premium edition for free also. Once you sign up for an account, you can create a Start Page that you can use as a home page. If anyone changes it, the changes remain on their computer until the cookies are deleted.

If you try it and have questions, let me know! It's working well so far.

Could I have the web site address?
Thanks.

Actually, I ended up switching back to my regular library home page, so it's no longer up. I liked it but my students wanted the old one back, so I gave in to popular demand!
